The committee defined the four primary facilities master plan goals as:

1.  Safety and security at all district facilities, including storm shelters and ADA accessibility
2.  Addressing deferred maintenance
3.  Efficiency and growth
4.  Curriculum and program equity

Next Steps
By July 10 phones will be ringing across the Derby Public Schools district as a comprehensive survey of community
patron opinion will begin. As the district continues to move forward with a Facilities Master Plan proposal, it is imperative that we have feedback from the community. Due to low attendance and feedback received at community meetings held earlier this year the district has contracted with Patron Insight, a service that helps gather community input.

Patron Insight formulated questions and will make 400 phone calls at random to community members to gain insight into the Facilities Master Plan and possible bond proposal. Phone surveys will begin by July 10 and are estimated to be completed by July 29. The survey of 400 households will also provide insight into what residents think about the district’s strengths, challenges and priorities. The 10-15 minute survey will touch on a wide variety of topics and will provide opportunities for residents to share their comments. The Derby Public Schools boundaries have been divided into four regions to have equal representation from the entire community.

In general, calls will be placed between 7:00PM-9:00PM on weekdays, and noon-6:00PM on Saturdays. While there may be some variation on those times, no calls will take place during the traditional dinner hour. The caller ID may show “Market Research Associates” or it may simply show an 816 or 913 area code, because the company uses calling facilities in both Missouri and Kansas. The calling will be done by Kansas City-based Market Research Associates, a firm that uses only locally based, professional researchers. Participants will be selected totally at random, and all responses will be kept completely confidential.

For those who are not contacted by Patron Insight at random by phone, an online version of the survey is available in English and Spanish to gather even more input from a wider audience. A link to the online surveys are below and will be open until July 28.

Please note that each of these surveys will only accept one response per device, i.e. laptop, cell phone, etc. If a person leaves the survey before he or she is finished, he or she will not be able to return later. That's a safety device to keep people from being able to do it more than once on the same device. No e-mail addresses are collected in this process; it is totally confidential. All the answers come straight to Patron Insight, and the district will get a summary report.

Due to the time frame of this additional survey component, the Process for Success steering committee did not meet on June 1 as previously planned. Patron Insight will present a report of their surveys to the Board of Education at the August 28 BOE meeting at City Hall. Following this presentation, each Process for Success steering committee member will also receive the report to review before reconvening again to discuss future plans. Those meeting dates are to be determined after the August 28 meeting.
